On LT. GOV. JUAN MORENTE NIEVA, Marinduque Governor from 1907 - 1916...
Destiny or Fate, or what we call "Tadhana", is the predetermined course of events considered to be beyond human control. There are religious beliefs that destiny is determined by a combination of human intelligence and divine will.

There are things that happen in our lives that appear to have been decided even before they happen. It also happens in history.

One hundred years ago, on May 17, 1907, through Act No. 1649 Marinduque was made a sub-province of Tayabas , and one illustrious man was appointed Lieutenant Governor.
LT. Gov. Juan Morente Nieva

His name was JUAN MORENTE NIEVA. Nieva, whose name was etched on the first bridge built in the province under the American regime (this is the colonial Nieva Bridge in Gasan), held the position for nine years - from 1907 to 1916.

On May 17, 2007, or exactly 100 years to the date, an Invisible Hand appeared to have intervened in the affairs of men. An unseen intelligence appeared to have directed the course of local elections to guide the destiny of a province. JUAN NIEVA's grandson was proclaimed in the wee hours of the morning of May 17, 2007, as the new governor of Marinduque: JOSE ANTONIO N. CARRION!
